Hawk Institute for Space Sciences, LLC, is a small business founded 2006 and headquartered in Crofton, MD, which is located on the eastern shore of Maryland in Worcester County.

Hawk began with a mission of providing aerospace engineering services and value-added, integrated aerospace solutions to our customers through "focused diversification" and workforce development. One of HISS's main priorities is to make space missions affordable to address national priorities in technically sound and timely manner. The first HISS satellite, Hawksat-1, was launched in May 2009.

The Hawk business plan is centered around leveraging the expertise and facilities at the Wallops Island Flight Facility, in combination with students and under-employed aerospace professionals on the Eastern Shore. We are focused on training the next generation aerospace engineers to increase minority participation in aerospace and defense. Our strategic partnership with University of Maryland Eastern Shore (HBCU), helps us accomplish this goal.

Currently HISS employs twenty-five (25) individuals, and we are presently growing. Over seventy-five (75) percent of Hawk employees have technical undergraduate or graduate degrees.
